Welcome to the Dojo of the Southern Wind home page. We are an official Nami ryu Aiki Heiho dojo under the direction of James Williams sensei, Kaicho of Nami Ryu. Nami ryu Aiki Heiho is based on ancient armed and unarmed martial arts that were the exclusive secret of the Samurai nobility. Our foundational arts are aiki-jujutsu, kenjutsu and iaijutsu, with exploration into practical modern combat techniques and personal defense. Japanese language, history and culture are also included.
Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho is a martial art beneficial to a healthy lifestyle, calmness of mind and spirit, and provides self-defense solutions. We study Samurai arts and principles including jujutsu and weapons. Different than karate or mixed martial arts, our study is not for sport or competition and can be studied at all stages of life.
Our training works for a variety of people interested in understanding of body mechanics, physics, and strategy. Nami Ryu principles are highly effective for conflict resolution, personal defense, and law enforcement arrest and control.
The mission of Nami Ryu is to continue the knowledge of the Samurai martial arts that have been passed on for generations. Believing in a functional operating system that prepares us for withstanding lethal force, the core of our training is the sword. Our members are committed men and women who cultivate classical warrior skills and virtues out of a feeling of duty to the whole of society.
Brian J. Williams is a Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho instructor who trains directly with James Williams sensei. Weekly classes are taught by Brian. Brian has over 25 years of martial arts experience. Brian's appreciation for the samurai arts lead him to continue his study of aiki jujutsu with James Williams sensei.
